The San Juan College Foundation hosted its first Pickleball Tournament on January 27, through January 29. This event was sponsored by Pumps & Service, Morgan Stanley and United Healthcare. The tournament attracted 60 teams from New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Louisiana. Funds raised from the tournament will support the San Juan College Foundation, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) established in 1973, which provides private sector resources for scholarships, awards, program support and the overall advancement of San Juan College. The tournament was held at the Health and Human Performance Center using the six indoor pickleball courts. The brackets consisted of intermediate (3.0-3.5) and advanced (3.5-4.0) men’s and women’s doubles on Saturday, January 28, and mixed doubles on Sunday, January 29. The top three teams in each bracket were awarded with medals, and the top team in each category received a piece of pottery made by world-renowned potter and San Juan College pottery instructor, Mr. Don Ellis.
