San Juan College employees were recognized for the outstanding work during the fall 2021 hybrid Convocation assembly. Annual distinctions included the Fran Sandoval Support Staff Excellence Award, the Physical Plant Staff   Excellence Award, the Wilson Adjunct Faculty Award and the President’s Service Excellence Award. Recipients’ awards and stipends were   provided by the San Juan College Foundation. 

Fran Sandoval Support Staff Excellence Award

The Fran Sandoval Support Staff Excellence Award is given to recognize the efforts and contribution of a support staff employee whose work has promoted the accomplishment and spirit of the San Juan College vision. The award went to Lisa Easley, records specialist with the  program. Easley is the liaison between the College and clinical sites for students. She is a critical component to the program and students’ success. She has built and maintains   strong partnerships with clinical sites all over the country. She is detail-oriented and student centered. The award was established in 2004, with a $2,000 stipend by Bert Levine.

 

 

 

 

 

Physical Plant Staff Excellence Award

The Physical Plant Staff Excellence Award went to Joe Sciba, who has worked for the for the past eight   years. He has always gone above and beyond to help others learn about and become familiar with SJC’s standard of cleanliness. He is highly skilled in all aspects of the Custodial department and is called upon by his coworkers and   supervisors for advice on a daily basis. Sciba has accepted many challenges, especially this past year, and knows the importance of the sanitization processes. His positive attitude has helped form the great “culture” that is admired by all within his department. This award is given to recognize the efforts and contribution of the Physical Plant support staff employee whose work has promoted the accomplishment and spirit of the San Juan College vision. A $1,000 stipend is given in honor of this award. 

 

 

 

Jane and Stuart Wilson Adjunct Faculty Award

The Jane and Stuart Wilson Adjunct Faculty Award was presented to Kathy Jo Myers, Instructor in the  program. The award carries a $500 stipend and is based on the adjunct faculty member’s commitment to excellence. She has been an adjunct instructor since 2009, and her commitment to San Juan College is long-standing, generous and well known. Her teaching excellence contributes in no small part to the 100 percent pass rate on the dental hygiene clinical licensure exam. Myers was recognized for being the kind of instructor who goes miles out of her way to help   students in any way she can. 

 

 

 

 

President’s Service Excellence Award

San Juan College President Dr. Toni Hopper Pendergrass presented the President’s Service Excellence Award to the . Dr. Pendergrass recognized the Center for their efforts with Diploma Days, online workshops for students, student employment and internship opportunities, as well as the successful job and   internship hybrid event. This team includes Jill Bishop, Amanda Pickering and Lauryn Gonzales. The Presidential Service Excellence Award carries a $500 stipend to the department and is awarded once a year. Sincere thanks are extended to the donors and the San Juan College Foundation for the opportunity to recognize the excellence that abounds at San Juan College.
