Becky Walling and the Estate of Aileen R. Stage established this scholarship to provide scholarship assistance to nursing students. Recipient must be enrolled in the Nursing Program.

Alva Dickerhoff established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to recipients who must meet the criteria of the San Juan College Foundation Merit Scholarship.

Alvina Martinez Jaquez Memorial

Family and friends have established an endowed scholarship in memory of Mrs. Alvina Martinez-Jaquez. The recipient must be a female of Hispanic heritage, a member of the Catholic religion, a full-time student, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, and has demonstrated academic achievement and financial need as determined by SJC.

Preference may be given to applicants who show evidence of currently working or having worked prior to enrollment for pay, or who are currently working or have worked prior to enrollment without pay, in some form of community service.

ASSP Four Corners Chapter Rod Troxwell Memorial Scholarship

American Society of Safety Professionals has established a scholarship in memory of Rod Troxell. It is for a student or students pursuing an Associate Degree in Safety in the School of Energy. Recipient must be a full or half-time student and priority is given to residents of San Juan County, New Mexico.

Angelo Turano Choral Memorial

In memory of Angelo Turano, friends have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to a student who attended a San Juan County, NM high school and is majoring in a program in the school of Humanities. Preference will be given to a choral student.

Don Schreiber has established an endowed scholarship in memory of Mrs. Angie Amerman. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student residing in San Juan County, NM who meets the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

API/American Petroleum Institute

The API has established several scholarships to support students in energy technology programs. The recipients must be individuals seeking enrollment in one of the programs administered through the SJC School of Energy, in preparation for entry level jobs in the oil and gas industry. Applicants must be unemployed and lack sufficient family income or resources to pay the required tuition and fees. Preference given to students seeking certification and licensure.

APS/Four Corners Power Plant

The APS/Four Corners Power Plant has established three endowed scholarships funds. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled as full-time students (12 credit hours or more) and meet the following criteria:

  • Endowment #1
    To be divided evenly between applicants in Vocational and Academic certification programs related to the utility industry, and divided evenly between male and female applicants. Preference is given to Native American students and students who might not be eligible for financial aid because of family income. Must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students, and be residents of San Juan County, NM.
  • Endowment #2
    Must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students, and be residents of San Juan County, NM.
  • Endowment #3
    Must be a full-time student enrolled in the Industrial Plant Operator Program (IPOP), meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students and be a resident of San Juan County, NM.

Through the estate of Mr. Arthur A. Jaquez, an endowed scholarship has been established in his memory. Preference will be given to Hispanic students. The recipient must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

The family and friends of Beverly Bakkum (a realtor in the Farmington area for many years) have established an endowment scholarship in her memory. This scholarship is awarded to an applicant who meets the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Bisti Fuels Company has established a scholarship for Native American students in the School of Energy. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Bloomfield Senior Center has established a scholarship to be awarded to a student who:

  • Is a high school graduate, including home school graduates
  • Has a Bloomfield address
  • Has attained a minimum 3.0 GPA

The family and friends of Chris Murphy have established a scholarship in his memory. The recipient must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time or part-time students.

Citizens Bank

Members of the Citizens Bank Board of Directors have established endowed scholarships. The recipients must meet the following criteria: Be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) at San Juan College; be a resident of San Juan County; and be in a low to moderate income category as follows: $0 - $24,000 for low income or $24,000 - $32,000 for moderate income.

Clinton and Dixie Taylor Memorial

Several endowed scholarships for the physically handicapped were funded by Clinton M. and Dixie Taylor to be awarded in honor of Jaris Taylor Elkins, Jeannine Taylor Ferre and Myron C. Taylor. Criteria specifies that applicants have a medically verified physical disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, or breathing. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Preference is given to full-time students, but may be at least half-time students, carrying a minimum of 6 credit hours. Recipients must maintain a 2.75 GPA on a scale of 4.0. Preference is given to the students who have the most severe handicaps. The applicant's GPA will be used as a "tie-breaker" if necessary.

Karen Mumma Palmer and Gordon Mumma established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in memory of their father, Colgan Thomas Mumma. The recipient must be  full-time student enrolled in the school of humanities. Preference is given to a string player or orchestral musician.

Jean Ritzenthaler and her family established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in memory of Dr. John Ritzenthaler, a notable and distinguished physician who for many years provided care for people in the Four Corners Area. The recipient must be a first-year student in the nursing program with a minimum 3.0 GPA or a continuing student previously awarded the scholarship. The recipient must be a resident of San Juan County, NM and be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) at San Juan College.

An anonymous donor has established the Farmington P.D. Law Enforcement scholarship. Preference will be given to a practicing member of the Farmington Police Department, a dependent of a Farmington Police Department employee, or student(s) enrolled in the Police Science program. The recipient(s) must be enrolled at San Juan College for a minimum of six credit hours and be a resident of San Juan County.

Garrett Voecks Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Garrett Voecks have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in his memory to honor Garrett’s passions, designed to encourage local male students up to the age of 25 to pursue AAS degrees in Welding, or Natural Gas Compression Technology, or AS degrees in engineering who intend to continue their education at a 4-year institution. Preference given to a students who:

  • Can demonstrate significant time spent caring for the elderly,
  • can demonstrate they were raised in a single parent household,
  • with GPA of 3.0 or better, and
  • were born and raised in Farmington, New Mexico.

Mr. and Mrs. Clinton M. Taylor, family and friends established two endowed scholarships in memory of Grace Barker Wilson, a retired schoolteacher, poet, school administrator and area historian. The scholarships are awarded to applicants who meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Grade Court Scholarship

The Coleman Family Foundation established an endowed scholarship to assist Grade Court graduates in continuing their education. The recipient must have a high school diploma or GED certificate, have successfully completed the Grade Court Program, and be enrolled at San Juan College (part or full time.)  Continuing students must complete a semester with a 2.0 GPA in order to receive the second semester's disbursement.

Guy E. and Lucille M. Jordan have established a scholarship through their estate, to be awarded to a student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship is be awarded to be awarded on the basis of financial need, without regard to age, religion, gender, national origin or state of residence.

Dave and Madeline Christensen have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in memory of Madeline's brother, Harold E. Schaefer, Jr. The recipient must be a resident of Farmington and meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Mr. Allen established a scholarship through his will and a trust administered by Citizens Bank for the Allen Family. The recipient must be a continuing student enrolled in business administration courses and must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Head-Brady Memorial

Through the estate of Guinevere Brady, several endowed scholarships have been established in her memory. Applicants must be full-time students pursuing an academic degree and come from middle income families.

Mrs. Brady requests that in consideration of receiving a scholarship, that students donate time to assisting elderly persons by providing transportation and assistance for medical appointments, banking and shopping. She also encourages students to engage in short visits and outings which could include lunch, as well as other activities, in order to gain insight and a sensitivity of the difficulties faced by seniors.

These activities must have been accomplished within the 12 months preceding the scholarship award.

Sylvia Little has established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in memory of Herb Cox. The scholarship recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student, be a resident of San Juan County, NM and be enrolled in a degree program in the School of Business, preferably majoring in accounting.

Annabelle Friddle established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in memory of her late husband. The recipient must be a non-traditional student (20 years of age or older, preferably a working student) who needs financial assistance. The recipient must maintain a 2.0 GPA and carry a minimum of six credit hours in any area of study.

The owners/management of the Holiday Inn of Farmington have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to a Native American resident of San Juan County attending San Juan College as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more). Preference is given to those students majoring in business.

The recipient must be an outstanding full-time automotive student. Preference given to a student participating in the automotive competition of the State of New Mexico's Annual Skills USA competitions.

Through their estate, J.B. and Priscilla Sandlin have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to students who are maintaining a “B” or “C” grade point average. Must be residents of San Juan County, NM.

Doug and Evangeline Echols have established two endowed scholarships to be awarded in memory of Mr. Echols' parents. Recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours and pursuing a certificate or degree program. Preference is given to students studying education and who are either attending college as a means of pursuing a career change or who have a marginal academic record. Recipients must demonstrate great determination and exemplify characteristics uniquely served by the community college philosophy. The recipient must have a minimum 2.5 GPA from either high school or college. The scholarship is renewable one time.

Myron and Revis Taylor

Myron and Revis Taylor have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to physically handicapped students at San Juan College. The recipients must have a medically verified physical disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as, caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, or breathing. Applicants must be full-time or part-time students carrying a minimum of two credit hours. A student carrying 10 credit hours or more will be considered a full-time student. The recipients must have been awarded either a high school diploma or GED and must have maintained a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. First preference shall be given to the most severe handicapped with the student's GPA being used as a "tie-breaker."

The National Association of Corrosion Engineers (N.A.C.E.©) International - Sandia Mountain Section has established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to a recipient who meets the following criteria:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in the Instrumentation & Controls technology or Renewable Energy curriculum;
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
  • Have declared an associates degree in Instrumentation & Controls Technology or Renewable Energy;

The New Mexico Land Title Association has established the Chili Currier endowed scholarship. The recipient must be a U. S. citizen and a current New Mexico resident attending San Juan College. The recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours if maintaining a full-time job, a minimum of nine credit hours holding a part-time job (15-20 hours per week), or a minimum of 12 credit hours (full-time student) if not employed. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. Funds must be used for tuition or books.

Nancy Ridenour established this endowed scholarship in honor of Nisa Bruce, director of the Nursing Program at San Juan College for more than 20 years, and instrumental in SJC's participation in the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) BSN program.

The scholarship recipient must be a student(s) in good standing and dually enrolled in the NMNEC BSN curriculum.

If the NMNEC no longer exists, then preference will be given to a student intending to seek the BSN.

The family of William L. Blasingame has established an endowed scholarship for SJC students meeting the following criteria: 

  1. Students accepted in any program in the School of Health Sciences or
  2. Students accepted in the Building Trades (Carpentry), Drafting, Fire Science and Police Science programs in the School of Technology
  3. GPA 3.0 or higher

Walters' Family Memorial

Herman Walters and his family established an endowed scholarship to be awarded in memory of their loved ones. First preference will be to a San Juan College student enrolled at least on a part-time basis (6-11 credit hours), maintain a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate good citizenship.

Wayne and Cassie Dallas "Treacherously"

In honor of their race horse "Treacherously," who closely competed for the 1993 Triple Crown of the All-American Futurity, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dallas have established an endowed scholarship to be awarded to a resident of San Juan County, NM, attending San Juan College as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more).

Students who have completed their GED test in any state are eligible to apply. Students must complete 12 credit hours with a 2.0 GPA in order to receive the second semester's disbursement. Must be residents of San Juan County.

Wells Fargo Bank of Farmington and Aztec Well Servicing sponsors an annual Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament. The recipients must meet the criteria for the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students. Must be a resident of San Juan County, NM.

Friends and family of Whitney G. Maurer have established a scholarship to be awarded in her memory. The recipients must be students in the nursing program and meet the criteria for the SJC Foundation full-time or part-time scholarships.

Wilma R. Cochran Memorial

Doug and Evangeline Echols have established an endowed scholarship in memory of Wilma R. Cochran. Preference is given to a student majoring in elementary education with an emphasis in library science. Secondary preference is given to a student majoring in elementary education. The recipient must meet the criteria of the San Juan College Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Leslie Donovan Stewart Memorial

The family and friends of Leslie Donovan Stewart have established an endowed scholarship in her memory. Leslie, a Piedra Vista and NMSU graduate, earned her national certification as a critical care nurse and served as an emergency flight nurse. To qualify for this scholarship, students must be accepted into the nursing program and must have a background in health sciences. Preference will go to a single parent or/and to a nursing student with an interest in becoming a certified critical care nurse.

NTEC will provide two housing scholarships in the amount of $4,760 for Native American students pursuing a degree in the STEM fields that are living in SJC campus housing.

Tanya Renea Nelson Memorial Scholarship

The Tanya Renea Nelson Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Tanya and to continue her commitment to students attending San Juan College and the improvement of higher education. This is a three-year scholarship that will be awarded to one student to complete an associate’s degree. $1000 will be awarded each semester. Upon completion of degree, the student will receive a $1000 award. Recipient must be a Navajo female.

Dine Bilingual Teacher Fund

The Dine Bilingual Teacher Fund was established by Kenneth Beatty. This scholarship is to be awarded to a student in the education/teaching field attending classes part-time or full-time. Student must have a financial need. It is preferred that the student be bilingual (Navajo/English) with a focus on a two-year terminal or transitional program in teaching at the elementary level.

The Dot and Walt Zahrt Scholarship for Emerging Learners

The Dot and Walt Zahrt Scholarship for Emerging Learners Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Anne Zahrt-Brewer in memory of her parents. This scholarship is for non-traditional (older, local student, no GPA requirement) student. Preference will be given to GED recipients and students pursuing Southwest Studies, Sustainable Agriculture/Environmental Science or Creative Writing.

Gonnsen/Snow Second Chance Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Gonnsen/Snow Second Chance Endowed Scholarship was established by Patricia Wheeler to give students a second chance. Recipients must have a 2.0 GPA. Preference will be given first to student that are out of prison. Second preference will be given to students in the Grade Court or Drug Court program.

Steve Wamel Dual Credit Endowed Scholarship Fund

The  Steve Wamel Dual Credit Endowed Scholarship Fund was established to support students that participated in the dual credit program in high school. Must be a full-time college student (12 credit hours or more), must be articulating directly from high school, must be seeking a college degree in a “career technical” scope of work, cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in classes they were taking for dual credit, must have earned 12 or more credits as a dual credit student in their junior or senior year of high school.

The scholarship will be awarded to a full or part time student. Student must have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Must be a resident of San Juan County and preference will be given to a student pursuing Occupational Health & Safety.

The Linda Jo Spencer Scholarship was established by the family of Linda Jo Spencer. Students must be in the Vet Tech program. The recipients must meet the criteria for the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

The Jim T. Dunlap First Responder Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Jim Dunlap for students enrolled in and taking courses in the Fire Science or EMS programs while employed or otherwise engaged, full or part-time, in the Firefighting or EMS fields. Student must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA, be a resident of San Juan County and acknowledge their intent to be employed in the Firefighting or EMS fields, as a resident of San Juan County after obtaining their degree.

Four Corners Old Car Club Testing Scholarship

To be awarded to students in the Autobody Program for I-CAR testing. Must have successfully completed the I-CAR ProLevel 1 Refinishing certification EPER1 and the I-CAR ProLovel 1 Non-Structural certification EPEN1. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

ConocoPhillips Energy Scholarship

Established by ConocoPhillips for Native American students residing in the State of New Mexico and chosen by the Dean of the School of Energy. The award amount will be determined by the Dean based on tuition, books and housing needs. The amount is not to exceed $5000 per semester. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Preference will be given in the following order: New to the School of Energy students, Mescalero Apache community, all other tribal communities in the State of New Mexico, Native American students already enrolled in the School of Energy ConocoPhillips preferred programs.
