Annual Scholarships

The recipient must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation Scholarship for full-time students.

Recipients must be full-time students obtaining a 2.5 or above GPA.  Preference will be given to single parents who are actively involved in community service

API/American Petroleum Institute

The API has established several scholarships to support students in energy technology programs. The recipients must be individuals seeking enrollment in one of the programs administered through the SJC School of Energy, in preparation for entry level jobs in the oil and gas industry. Applicants must be unemployed and lack sufficient family income or resources to pay the required tuition and fees. Preference given to students seeking certification and licensure.

To be awarded to a student with a declared major in the School of Science who meets the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

The Bloomfield Senior Center has established a scholarship to be awarded to a student who:

  • Is a high school graduate, including home school graduates
  • Has a Bloomfield address
  • Has attained a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Is enrolled as a SJC full-time student (12 hours or more)

Chevron U.S.A. has established scholarships for students in taking classes in the School of Energy.  The scholarship recipients must meet the Foundation criteria for full-time or half-time students.

Chevron U.S.A. has established scholarships for 10 students enrolled full-time with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Must be residents of San Juan County, NM. Financial need considered.

Chevron U.S.A. has established scholarships for students studying to be Petroleum Technology Lease Operators in the School of Energy.  The scholarship recipients must meet the Foundation criteria for full-time or half-time students.

Commissioners

The elected Commissioners of San Juan County, NM have established a scholarship that is awarded in conjunction with the annual Four Corners Conference for Professional Development held at SJC. The recipient must attend the conference to be eligible to apply. The award may be used for tuition and/or books. Any funds that have not been utilized by Nov. 1st in the year following the award, will be forfeited, and revert back to the fund.

The recipient must be a full-time student enrolled in San Juan College's Petroleum Technology Program, be a resident of San Juan County, and must have or maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Recepients must be students in the College Automotive Program (CAP) and must meet the Foundation criteria for full-time students.

Dean and Betty have established a scholarship, to be awarded to full-time (12 credit hours or more) students with a 2.5 GPA or better.

The school of Math and Science of San Juan College has created a scholarship in memory of their colleague, Debbie Prell. The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student with a minimum GPA 3.0 who is interested in pursuing a career in Math or Science.

Desk & Derrick Club of Farmington Annual

The Farmington Desk & Derrick Club has established scholarships for students seeking enrollment in one of the programs administered through the SJC School of Energy, in preparation for entry level jobs in the oil and gas industry. Recipient must be enrolled in the School of Energy program.

The recipient must have a 2.75 GPA or higher, be enrolled part-time – second consecutive year preferred. Financial need required. Community service considered.

The San Juan College Foundation has established several scholarships to be awarded annually to students enrolled in vocal music, band/orchestra and theatre. Recipients must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Four Corners Conference for Professional Development

Applicant must attend the Four Corners Conference for Professional Development and apply at the conference. Other criteria include:

  • Must write a narrative
  • Provide one letter of recommendation

The Gas Compressor Association (GCA) has established a scholarship be awarded to students whose major/course of study is Natural Gas Compression.

Glen Harrison Memorial

APS Four Corners Power Plant has established a scholarship in memory of Glen Harrison to be awarded to students meeting the following criteria: 2.5 GPA or higher, preference given to family of Glen Harrison or Navajo students; preference given to student taking classes in the School of Energy.

Harry S. Allen Memorial

Mr. Allen established a scholarship through his will and a trust administered by Citizens Bank for the Allen Family. The recipient must be a continuing student enrolled in business administration courses and must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

Intel Corporation has established several scholarships for students who meet the following criteria:
  • Must be enrolled in the Instrumentation & Controls Technology Program
  • Be a full-time student (enrolled for 12 credit hours or more)
  • Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must have unrestricted right to work in the United States

Key to the World of Vocal Music and Theatre

An anonymous donor has established an annual scholarship to be awarded students studying vocal music or theatre.  Scholarship criteria:

·         Recommendation letter that demonstrates the student has a commitment to either music or theatre from the SJC lead vocal music faculty or lead theatre faculty or a high school teacher or another unrelated adult who has reason to know of the students’ commitment

·         Must be erolled in a minimum of one class in choir or one class in theatre

·         Minimum overall GPA of 2.25

Major Key Scholarship

·         Must be enrolled with a minimum of 9 credits     

 

Minor Key Scholarship

·         Must be enrolled with a minimum of 6 credits

Kinder Morgan

Kinder Morgan has established scholarships for students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the Instrumentation & Controls Technology Program, either a certificate or associate degree program.
  • Full or part time student with a minimum of six credit hours or more
  • Recent high school graduate or older non-traditional student
  • Must demonstrate financial need using the current process in place with the Financial Aid Office

Sharla A. McNeely has established scholarship in memory of her mother, Marcia Peifer. This scholarship is to be awarded to a full-time student residing in New Mexico who meets the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

N.A.C.E. - International - Sandia Mountain Section - Energy

National Association of Corrosion Engineers International - Sandia Mountain Section has established an annual scholarship fund. Recipients of this scholarship:

·         Must be enrolled or seeking enrollment in one of the programs administered through the SJC School of Energy.

·         Have either a high school diploma or a GED certificate.

·         Must have obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

·         Be a resident of New Mexico.

The Newcomers Club of San Juan County has established a scholarship to be awarded to a returning female student meeting the criteria for the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

The Raytheon Missile Systems, NAPI Facility has established a scholarship to be awarded to a full-time student with a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Robert B. Stannard, Jr. - Engineering Memorial Scholarship

The New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers (NMSPE)

has established a scholarship in memory of Robert B. Stannard, Jr. The recipient must be a full-time, returning student interested in pursuing a degree in engineering with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

The New Mexico Professional Surveyors Association - Four Corners Chapter, has established a scholarship in memory of Robert B. Stannard, Jr. The recipient must be a student interested in pursuing a career in Civil Drafting & Surveying with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Roy G. Dalpra Memorial

Roy Dalpra established the Roy G. Dalpra Memorial Scholarship through a trust fund administered by Citizens Bank. Several scholarships are awarded annually to applicants who meet the San Juan College Presidential Merit Scholarship criteria.

Pinon Hills Golf Association has established two scholarships in memory of S.A. (Tinny) Sandoval. The recepients must be full-time students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

San Juan College Building Trades

The students and instructors of the SJC Building Trades Program have established a scholarship funded from projects the students design, build and auction and/or sell as part of the program.  The recipient must:

  • be pursuing an associate degree in applied science with a declared major in carpentry
  • have taken SJC classes Beginning Carpentry 111 & 115 and Intermediate Carpentry 121 & 127
  • have and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher

Scholarship recipients will be chosen by the Building Trades instructors.

The San Juan County Board of Realtors has established an annual scholarship. Recipients must meet the criteria of the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students. Preference will be given to students with financial need who are not eligible for Pell Grants

The San Juan County Fair Association has established an annual scholarship. The scholarship recipient must meet the Foundation criteria for full-time students and

must be a member in the San Juan County 4-H Club or FFA member, and mention this in their Scholarship letter.

San Juan County Gem & Mineral Society
The San Juan County Gem & Mineral Society has established a scholarship to be awarded to a second year student with a declared major of Geology. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and reside in the four corners area.

The recipient must be a second year student interested in teaching and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

The San Juan Rotary Club has established a scholarship to be awarded to a student who first attended a “Basic Literacy” or “ESL” (English as a second language) class and is now registered at San Juan College as a full-time or half-time student.

Show Me The Money

Angelina Buyok and Bert Sparks have established two scholarships for participants of the "Show Me The Money" workshop at Rocinante High School. Recipients must be a current graduate of Rocinante, must enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) at San Juan College the first semester after graduation, must be a San Juan County resident and qualify for Financial Aid. Applicants should have attended the “Show Me the Money” workshop as part of the Rocinante High School Career Fair sponsored by the Farmington Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.

Applicants should submit a brief description of the following: 

1.       Why the applicant believes he/she should receive the “Show Me the Money” Scholarship.

2.       Educational Goals & Field of Study

3.       Need for financial assistance

4.       Prior work experience, if any

5.       Current H.S. GPA (cumulative)

Applicant should also provide one (1) letter of recommendation.

The family of Wayne Ivan McNeely has established an a memorial scholarship to be awarded to a student or students in the Nursing program.

Recipient must be enrolled with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester; are either first time college students with a minimum final high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 OR are continuing college students and have obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Students who have completed their GED test in any state are eligible to apply. Students must complete the application for a SJC Foundation Scholarship and submit a brief essay on their educational plan. Students must complete 12 credit hours with a 2.0 GPA in order to receive the second semester's disbursement. Applications may be obtained at the Counseling Office of San Juan College.

Wells Fargo Bank & Aztec Well Servicing

Wells Fargo Bank of Farmington and Aztec Well Servicing sponsors an annual Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament. The recipients must meet the criteria for the SJC Foundation scholarships for full-time students.

The Williams Foundation has established an annual scholarship for student enrolled in the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Program. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Preference will be given to students who have interned with Williams.

The Williams Foundation has established an annual scholarship for student enrolled in the Industrial Process Operator Program. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Preference will be given to students who have interned with Williams.
